It sounds like the beginning of a joke, but its actually the scenario for Reb Yehuda Halevys monumental classic The Kuzari. In it, the king of the Khazars, who really did convert to Judaism, invites four people a philosopher, a Christian, a Moslem, and a Jew to debate the relative merits of their worldviews.
